Banksia sect. Banksia |
Banksia subg. Banksia is a subgenus of Banksia. It contains the "typical" Banksia species, those that have Banksia's characteristic large flower-spike and fruiting "cone". As such, it contains all but three of the Banksia species. These three atypical species have inflorescences that are dome-shaped heads, and are placed in Banksia subg. Isostylis.
Banksia subg. Banksia is further divided into three sections, primarily on the shape of the style:
- Banksia sect. Banksia species have a straight or curved, but never hooked, style. This section contains about 50 species that are further divided into nine series;
- Banksia sect. Coccinea contains a single species, Banksia coccinea;
- Banksia sect. Oncostylis contains those species whose styles are hooked. It contains about 20 species, which are further divided into four series.
