Bangkok 8

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Bangkok 8" is a crime novel set primarily in Bangkok's red light district, the center of the Thai sex tourism industry.

The novel was written by John Burdett (born 1954) and centers on the Thai Buddhist detective, Sonchai Jitleecheep. Sonchai's internal dialogues are a cross between Sherlock Holmes and Carl Jung. He is an original and fascinating detective. The story itself is interesting as a crime thriller and fascinating as pop anthropology. While sexual matters play a central role in the narrative, the sexual descriptions are never gratuitously salacious.

"Bangkok 8" was followed by a sequel, "Bangkok Tattoo". Burdett is also reportedly working on a third Bangkok novel.
