A banana hammock is a slang term for a bikini-style bathing suit worn by a man, named for the way it supports a man's genitals, the foremost of which is known as a banana.

Other names for bikini-style bathing suits for men include "budgie smuggler", "Speedo", "Sluggos" and "DT's" (Dick Togs).

In a 2004 episode of the NBC sitcom Friends, "The One With Princess Consuela", Phoebe Buffay changed her name to "Princess Consuela Banana Hammock," unaware that a banana hammock was a type of men's bikini swimwear. This then prompted her husband Mike to change his name to "Crap Bag".

Additionally, in the episode of the sitcom Scrubs (also NBC) entitled "My Own Personal Jesus," J.D. (Zach Braff) cries out "Banana Hammock!" to break the tension between Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley) and Jordan (Christa Miller). The phrase "Banana Hammock" has since become a recurring joke on the series, more so now that The Todd (Robert Maschio) is often seen wearing leopard-spotted bikini briefs.
