- Within Wikipedia, a ban is a formal revocation of a user's editing privileges. A ban is sometimes confused with a block, but both have distinct meanings. A block is a technical measure to disable a user from editing; a ban is a social construct prohibiting editing. Under a ban, a user is still physically able to edit, unless the ban is also enforced by a block.
