[edit] Maps of Germany

Hi, could you please tell us wich licence you give to Image:Bundeslaender germany th.png ? So that we can import it on fr:WP. Thanks ;o) --Pontauxchats 10:06, 8 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Hi, I am happy to hear that you are interested in using these maps. All maps created by me are licenced under GNU FDL. -- Baldhur 14:51, 8 Apr 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Germans

I've for long (a year, actually) been itched by the way Wikipedia-links are done with often sloppy distinctions between nationality, citizenship and ethnicity (with regard to persons) and also between nations and countries. This is particularly obvious in the case of people or entities that are denoted as German. A link to the Federal Republic of Germany is often outright unhistorical and wrong, but this has until now been the most usual.

Therefore I'm considering an article on Germans, which I've started at User:Ruhrjung/Germans. I would wish to avoid lots of edit wars. In particular, I would not wish to see the current disputes over German-Polish matters automatically extend also to this article, why I kindly ask you for comments now, in advance, in order to try to find wordings acceptable to as many as possible of concerned wikipedians.

I look forward to your comments at User talk:Ruhrjung/Germans.

[edit] User:Space Cadet

Thank you, Mirko, for catching this attempt to make me look bad! Ironically, most of the information contained there is close to truth, but way too personal to be displayed in a public domain. I guess he was able to track me down pretty well. By the way, have you seen Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Space Cadet? My guess is Szopen is going through some difficult stages in his life, right now. Funny, because he was the last person I would expect to explode like that. World is a twisted place. Thanks again. Space

Yes, I saw that page. But I did not follow this quarrel and I cannot judge if you or he is right. Everyone in this "Polish-German dispute" (as it is frequently called) tends to overreactions. I managed to rediscover fun in editing Wikipedia by switching to other fields of knowledge and another language edition. However, I hope that one day the situation will be solved by strict action against POV pushers from either side. -- Baldhur 17:23, 18 Apr 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Chinese River Dolpin

Hey Baldhur (cool name, btw), what's up with changing the name in the "The Chinese White Dolphin is a sub-species of the Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphin. See that article for a biological description of the animal."? I'm confused. This article is about the Chinese River Dolphin, which is a seperate genus from the Chinese White Dolphin? Or am I reading this wrong (which I know is the most likely explanation)? Could you enlighten me and other gentle readers? Thanks. Stargoat 20:49, 21 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Previously there was: "The Chinese River Dolphin is a sub-species of the Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphin." This sentence was wrong and contradictory to the first paragraph. The Chinese White Dolphin is a sub-species of the IPHD, but the Chinese River Dolphin is not. So I corrected it but the other solution would be to delete it entirely in order to avoid confusing other readers. -- Baldhur 08:05, 22 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Cool. Thanks. Stargoat 13:52, 22 Apr 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Tapirs

This is Belizian, I think the pictures of the tapirs are under the fauna section off the Belize main page if you can find them ping me again and I'll either post more or email em to ya, I have alot more than 3 pictures by the way. And they are public domain as far as I'm concerned they can be used in any way except for profit if you sell em or charge for em I want a cut. But for wiki use em makes me feel good to be help a project like this. Belizian 02:27, 29 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Thanks a lot, Belizian. I found your photos on Photographs of the Belize fauna (2) - they are really great. Of course I won't sell them, I just would like to use them in the German Wikipedia. And now after you pointed me to all these other brilliant pictures, I will have even more photos to illustrate our fauna articles. That's great, thank you. [edit] License  ?

Hi, you had uploaded the picture http://en.wikipedia.org/upload/archive/8/84/20040309222038%21Germany_bundeslaender.png without giving its license. Is it GFDL ? Thanks in advance. Tipiac 16:31, 16 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for your note. Pontauxchats who is also from the French Wikipedia asked the same question some days ago (see above). All my maps are released under the GFDL. I am sorry that I was somewhat careless with giving a licence when I uploaded these maps. I have now added the licence to that image. -- Baldhur 19:23, 16 Aug 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

[edit] Unverified images

Hi! Thanks for uploading the following image:

I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use gfdl if you release it under the GNU Free Documentation License, fairuse if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the imagesand I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much. Peter O. (Talk, automation script) 23:44, Dec 9, 2004 (UTC)

P.S. You can help tag other images at User:Yann/Untagged_Images. Thanks again.

an "unverified" tag has been added to these images, which you uploaded. Please add source information and an appropriate licence tag.

Thousands of images have no copyright tags. You can help sort this out by clicking on this link!

(You can use gfdl if you release it under the GFDL, or fairuse if you claim fair use, etc.) Right now, I'll put it as unverified, but change it to what it's supposed to be when you get a chance. I read the info on your user page about the maps but I'm not sure about the coat of arms pics. Thanks, Mattingly23 15:40, 18 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Hi, I'm not sure about the status of the picture you uploaded in 2003. It was deleted from Commons, but it seems that that photo IS in public domain, see Us Fish and Wildlife Service. Would you explain me what is going on?--LigiaP 00:57, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image source/licensing for Image:Braunschweig.jpg

The image you uploaded, Image:Braunschweig.jpg, has no source information. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, ie in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. Unless the copyright status is provided, the image will be marked for deletion on 24 October 2005.

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Fieldfare.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Fieldfare.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -SCEhardT 04:13, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
