The Baltimore Pike was an auto trail in the United States, connecting Baltimore, Maryland with Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was replaced by U.S. Route 1 in 1926, having been known as Pennsylvania Route 12 in Pennsylvania since 1924.[1]
Despite its name, the road was not itself a former turnpike, but portions were, including the Chadsford Turnpike between Philadelphia and Chadds Ford, and the Baltimore and Jerusalem Turnpike between Baltimore and Bel Air, Maryland. It crossed the Susquehanna River on the Conowingo Bridge.
A section of the road within the city limits of Philadelphia is known as Baltimore Avenue; some sections of the road in the suburbs of Philadelphia still retain the name "Baltimore Pike". Parts of the road are signed as U.S. Route 13.
