Baltasar Carlos was the eldest son of King Philip IV of Spain and his first wife, Elisabeth of France. He was born on 17 October 1629 in Madrid, and died 9 March 1646 in Zaragoza at the age of sixteen. He bore the title Prince of Asturias.

Prince Baltasar Carlos was depicted in a number of portraits by Diego de Velázquez.
