Balm, Florida
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Balm is an unincorporated, rural community located in southeastern Hillsborough County, Florida, approximately 18 miles southeast of Tampa.
It is the location of Goodson Farms packing house and vegetable/fruit stand. In 2005, Goodsons has begun rebuilding the stand on the intersection of McGrady Road and 301.
There are also four tropical fish farms and a small holding area for Barnum and Bailey's circus animals.
One well known landmark is the Balm post office, which has been part of the community for over 50 years. The small town is undergoing construction of new houses and may eventually be upgraded to a suburb, hopefully bringing mail delivery and high speed Internet service to the area.
On an interesting note, local high speed Internet service providers have ignored the town's willingness to accept high speed Internet and cable. For unknown reasons, the companies have completely ignored the chance for new customers and have recently been purposely bringing power outages to the area. Many have filed complaints to the city of Tampa but their calls have been unanswered. Verizon and Tampa Electric Co. are believed to be the source of these problems.
As of today, this town is constantly being neglected by the county despite being the site of a future mitigation project.
