  • As an Asgardian, Balder the Brave is among the Norse gods featured in various stories among the Marvel range.
  • In Alan Moore's Top 10, the police are summoned to investiage the crime scene after Balder's death.

  • Balder is starring as the main character in the upcoming videogame "Too Human", developed by Silicon Knights and published by Microsoft. Too Human is the first video game in a planned trilogy for Microsoft’s videogame entertainment system Xbox 360. "Too Human" uses characters and allegories from ancient Norse myths in a science fiction setting.
  • The Ogre Battle series has a number of weapons described as being 'made from Balder metal'. Aside from having the same name, there is nothing specifically to link them to the myth.

  • In the book American Gods by Neil Gaiman, Loki says that he will sharpen a stick of mistletoe and ram it into the eye of Shadow (the novel's protagonist), a reference to what he did to Balder. Also notable is the fact that Shadow is Odin's son. Furthermore it is revealed in the short story The Monarch of the Glen that Shadow's real name is in fact, Balder.
