Balaban and Katz

The first incarnation of the Balaban and Katz corporation appeared in 1916 in Chicago by A.J. Balaban, Barney Balaban, Sam Katz and Morris Katz. It held its first meeting as a Delaware corporation on January 21, 1925. The company was officially dissolved as an Illinois corporation on July 31, 1970. B & K is responsible for the creation of the Uptown Theatre and the Chicago Theatre, designed by architects Rapp and Rapp.
The history of the company is being researched and protected by a newly created organization entitled Balaban and Katz Historical Foundation.The Balaban and Katz Trademark is now the property of the Balaban and Katz Historical Foundation
