Bako Gazer

Bako Gazer is one of the 77 woredas in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples' Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Debub Omo Zone, Bako Gazer is bordered on the south by Hamer Bena, on the west by Selamago, and on the north by the Semien Omo Zone, and on the east by the Weito River which separates it from the Dirashe special woreda. Towns in Bako Gazer include Tolta and Wub Hamer.

The homeland of the Aari people lies in the northern part of this woreda, while the Hamer people have their homeland in the southern part.

Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 298,534, of whom 148,088 were males and 150,446 were females; 9,276 or 3.11% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 8.5%. With an estimated area of 4,284.07 square kilometers, Bako Gazer has an estimated population density of 69.7 people per square kilometer, which is greater than the Zone average of 21.1.[1]
