Baker River (Washington)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Baker River is a tributary of the Skagit River, approximately 28 mi (45 km) long, in northwestern Washington in the United States. It drains an area of the high Cascade Range in the watershed of Puget Sound north of Seattle.

It rises in the Cascade Range, in the northern section of North Cascades National Park, and flows south. Most of the southern half of the river is impounded in lakes: Baker Lake, impounded by Upper Baker Dam, and Lake Shannon, in Lower Baker Dam. Most of Baker Lake is in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Upper Baker Dam is located in Whatcom County and Lower Baker Dam is located in the town of Concrete. Both dams are owned by Puget Sound Energy. The river flows south from the dam for only about 1 mile before draining into the Skagit River.
