The Bajaj Avenger is a cruiser indigenously conceptualized and produced by Bajaj Auto. It draws the styling and other design cues from the Bajaj Eliminator which had an air-cooled, Single cylinder Kawasaki engine and was sold at a premium.

To gain a strategic position in the premium segment, Bajaj Engineers replaced the Kawasaki single with the - indigenously conceived and more successful - 180cc DTS-i engine from the Bajaj Pulsar, a sports model. However, the engine had to be re-tuned to suit the torque-demanding characteristics of a cruiser. There was a massive slash in the price tag thus making it the most Value-for-money package in the market. It is also the first cruiser developed by an Indian Company. The engine develops 12.15kW (16.51 Ps) power at 8000 rpm. The max torque is 15.22 Nm @6000 rpm. The wheelbase is 1475mmm which is the longest in any motorcycle* in India.
