Bagra

Bagra is a village in Jalore (Jalor) district of Rajasthan in India. Bagra lies 20 km south of Jalore town on Jalore-Sirohi road. Bagra is surrounded by villages like Santhu, Akoli, Narnavas, Nun, Mok, Dhanpur, Bakra, Dudsi, Dhaval and Deegaon.

Its railway station name is Marwar Bagra and is on the Samadari-Bhildi section of North Western Railway. The Railway Board proposes to convert this meter gauge route to broad gauge in near future.

Bagra is well connected to all near by towns by all weather roads. Buses ply through Bagra to all major places. Taxis are available at all times for nearby places.

History

Bagra is an old village however its precise history is not known. Before independence it was part of Marwar state and was under Daspan Thikana.In olden days Bagra was well known for trade in silver and gold.

People

Bagra has population of 9661 (2001 census). Over the years many families have migrated to others states of India. Many of them now live in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Chennai and Mumbai. In Andhra Pradesh they are concentrated in cities of Kakinada, Cuddapah, Eluru, Narsapur, Nellore, Rajahmundry, Samalkot, Vishakhapatnam, Peddapuram, Vijayawada and Guntur. In Karnataka they have settled in Bijapur and Bangalore.

Over last few decades some new people have settled in Bagra.

Economy

Agriculture and animal husbandry are main occupations of the people of Bagra. Bagra is a major production centre of cash crops like oilseeds, isabgol, jeera, and arandi in Jalore district. In last decade many entrepreneurs have set up small scale granite units in Bagra.

Temples

Local:

It is at Bus Stand. It has deities of Baba Ramdevji and Lord Krishna and Radha. It is the main temple for many villagers. It is currently being reconstructed.

This is the main Jain temple of the village. It is situated in the centre of the village. It is a big and splendid temple. It was renovated about 100 years ago under guidance and by inspiration of Gurudev Srimad Vijay Rajendrasurishavarji Maharaj.

  • Vanieshwar Mandir on a hilltop on south west side after crossing rail tracks
  • There is a beautiful Bawdi behind the Shri Mahavir Swami Jain Mandir .It was the main source of water for drinking and domestic use for the villagers before 1968 when they got tap water . There are bathing and washing places with water flowing from the Bawdi through oxen driven chain .
