Baglihar Dam
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Baglihar Dam is a dam project in the Chenab River in Chandrakot in the southern Doda district of Kashmir Jammu province, India, near the border with Pakistan. The first phase of the Baglihar Dam was completed in 2004.
Pakistan opposed construction of the dam claiming it violated the Indus Water Treaty of 1960, and the issue was referred to the World Bank. In 2005, the World Bank appointed Raymond Lafitte, a Swiss national to adjudicate. He has presented a prelimnary draft and the final verdict is expected by the end of this year. Both parties (India and Pakistan) have already agreed that they will abide by the final verdict.
