Baglan in Wales is not to be confused with the similar sounding Afghan city of Baghlan

Baglan is a village in south Wales. The village is named after St Baglan. Baglan is also the name of a community and an electoral ward, both coterminous with the village, in the administrative region of Neath Port Talbot county borough.

For many people, Port Talbot means steel, modern industry and grey rooftops seen from the M4, but in fact the earliest record of a settlement here dates back almost 2000 years to Roman times. Later, Welsh monks chose the peace and beauty of Margam and Baglan as sites for their churches; the carved stone crosses and memorials they left as evidence of their presence can be seen in the Stones Museum at Margam.

The village itself located on the side of a steep hill and contains many historical buildings such as Baglan House, St. Catharines Church, St. Baglan's Church. The first St. Baglan's Church, is now a shell after a fire in 1954.

To the south of the village lay industrial areas called Baglan Moors and Baglan Bay.

[edit] Sport

Baglan is home to two sporting associations Baglan Rugby club, and Baglan football club.
