BAE Systems Customer Solutions & Support

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

BAE Systems Customer Solutions & Support (CS&S) provides through-life support and upgrades for defence forces. The RAF Tornado GR4 upgrade is an example of the work undertaken by the CS&S division.

A major part of the division's business is the continuing Al Yamamah contracts with Saudi Arabia. BAE has approximately 4,600 employees working directly with the Royal Saudi Air Force (also see Military of Saudi Arabia). BAE is paid in oil via the United Kingdom government.

In 2005, following the completition of the acquisition of United Defense, BAE Systems launched a reogranisation of its U.S. businesses into three operating groups. One of these, Customer Solutions, is a direct equivalent to the UK CS&S division.

[edit] Divisions

  • CS&S Group Office
  • CS&S International Programmes manages the company's Al Yamamah programme in Saudi Arabia.
  • CS&S Logistics and Information Systems provides technical information and supply chain software to support the standardisation of logistics processes.
  • CS&S Military Air Solutions and Support carries out support and upgrade of military aircraft, increasingly under through-life integrated and incentivised contracting arrangements. For instance the company and its UK Ministry if Defence customer claim that the Royal Air Force's Nimrod MR2 maritime patrol aircraft fleet is now achieving 40 % better availability at 8 % lower cost under these new arrangements.
  • CS&S Naval provides maintenance, repairs, minor and major refits for naval vessels. Past projects include reactivation of the Upholder class, now reactivated as the Victoria Class submarines for the Canadian Government, and Vanguard class upgrades. CS&S Naval has completed the reactivation of the Royal Navy's Type 22 Frigates for Romania and is now working on a similar programme for Chile involving the refurbishment of three ex-Royal Navy Type 23 frigates.
  • BAE Systems Australia provides the same services as the wider CS&S organization but is based in Australia.
