Pick of destiny, or something.
Throughout the whole of his "Observations," Mr. Hamilton endeavours to impress the public with an idea of his own purity, and of the rancorous emnity of his opposers. He has drawn a hideous portrait; and, with one hand, he points at it as theirs, while, with the other, over the magnitude of his own crimes, he artfully throws a veil. It is out duty, then, to drag him from his covert, and to shew him to the world in a proper point of view, shrouded in his own crimes. To accomplish this, let us examine what proof he offers of the "uprightness of his principles." He tells us he was not guilty of speculation, but acknowledges himself an adulterer. Does this then prove him upright?
"Justice", in the National Gazette, concerning the actions of Alexander Hamilton in the 1790s.

Hello! I'm Jeff Raymond, a 25 year old from Central Massachusetts. I have a college degree in political science and history. My goal is to, at some point in my life, become a children's librarian.

[edit] Personal Interests

My main areas of interest are music and political articles. NPOV is essential to political articles, and it's extremely hard to fight off edit warring when you have people who are hellbent on inserting POV into articles. To me, it involves not only including notable and useful information and links in articles that you may disagree with on a personal level, or may not fit your ideology, but unincluding information that, even if it meshes with your worldview, may not be competently verifiable. I'm personally an Anti-Bush paleoconservative, so I spend time in both conservative and liberal subjects, but try hard to keep NPOV in mind during my editing and upkeep.

My main interest, however, in music articles. I own nearly 2000 CDs, I go to many concerts, I read a lot of music blogs, I consider myself well-versed. I fight to keep notable bands from being deleted, add new independent acts and albums when I come across them, and otherwise cause mischief that way.

I mainly create stubs, but would eventually want to expand more things myself. A small article is better than none at all.

<badlydrawnjeff> Can I quote that?
From #wikipedia on Freenode, about lil' ol' me.

  • I used to be a proponent of Administrator Recall. I'm not anymore.
  • WP:MUSIC has a number of failings as a guideline, as it encompasses too many otherwise notable subjects (for instance, see the AfDs for The 7th Floor Crew, KOMPRESSOR, Team 9, and Asgard Legionnaires). Furthermore, the internet somewhat ruins the concept of straight notability judged by record sales and magazine coverage, and WP:MUSIC should theoretically find a useful way to keep that in mind. This problem exists in WP:WEB as well, and, to a certain extent, WP:CORP. People rush to fit groups and people into these WPs without thinking a little too often.
  • WP:SNOW may be the worst thing to happen to Wikipedia. It tosses process for a crystal ball, ignoring any chance of uncovering information that may change a situation for the purpose of quick finishes. It's rude, divisive, and inflammatory, but has unfortunate desire to be kept around. Furthermore, if I notice something being closed or referenced via WP:SNOW, I will challenge you on it, up to and including taking it to another review venue. If I catch it, I will do it, period.
  • This idea of stable articles is troublesome. It makes us into something less than what we're capable of.
  • Speedy keep needs to be expanded. While it needs to be expanded, please don't violate the speedy keep guidelines in the meantime.
  • We're mature enough as a community where we shouldn't have to ignore the rules if they bother us. Need to rely on IAR too much? Says a lot about you.

I think I might actually meet WP:BIO.

[edit] Personal reference area/Brag board

This exists for two reasons:

  1. It's easy for me and others to refer to.
  2. It helps me keep track of possible deletions.

I don't create bad articles, although I create small ones. The current climate is such that small often equals bad, so...
