Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Bachelor of Science (B.S., B.Sc. or less commonly, S.B. or Sc.B. from the Latin Scientiae Baccalaureus) is an undergraduate academic degree awarded for courses taken that generally last three years in Australia, England, Germany, Hong Kong, India, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Quebec, Malaysia,Singapore, Wales and South Africa; or four years in North America, the Philippines and Scotland.

In North America, a Bachelor of Science degree usually requires students to take a majority of their courses (usually one half or three quarters) in the sciences, namely life sciences, physical sciences, or the mathematical sciences. Most universities plan the Science Bachelor degree as a liberal arts course schedule.

Biomedical Engineering (also known as Bioengineering) is the application of engineering principles and techniques to the medical field. It combines the expertise of engineering with medical needs to improve healthcare. An increasing number of universities with an engineering faculty now have a biomedical engineering program or department from the undergraduate to the doctorate level. Traditionally, biomedical engineering has been an interdisciplinary field to specialize in after completing an undergraduate degree in a more traditional discipline of engineering or science. However, undergraduate programs are becoming more widespread.
