Bacha Khan Zadran

Bacha Khan Zadran was appointed Governor of Paktia Province, Afghanistan in December 2001, but he was asked to step down after local officials, backed by their own militia, refused to allow him to entry to the provincial capital to take office.
After removal from office, the forces under Zadran's command were reported as assisting the U.S. military as well as attempting to control territory upon their own initiative. Authorities in Kabul alleged that Zadran had also set up checkpoints in Paktia and Kost provinces for the purpose of extorting money from travellers.
On December 1, 2003, Zadran was arrested by Pakistani forces, and handed over to Afghan officials on February 3, 2004.
