Baazee.com
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Baazee.com was an auction website headquartered in Mumbai which started operating in India in 2000. In June 22, 2004, eBay acquired all outstanding shares of Baazee.com, for approximately US $50 million in cash, plus acquisition costs. It has since been rebranded as ebay.in, and has over 1 million registered users[citation needed].
On December 17, 2004, Baazee.com's CEO Avnish Bajaj was arrested under section 67 of the Information Technology Act for transmission of obscene material through electronic media. The arrest was related to the illegal sale of pornographic CDs through the website in November 2004. The arrest was condemned by the Indian National Association of Software and Service Companies, which called it a "draconian approach" of the law enforcement agencies[citation needed]. He was released on bail on December 21, 2004 by the Delhi High Court.
