B Street Theatre
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
B Street Theatre has been known for its innovative productions of new plays since its first season in 1991. A lesser-known fact is that the company was originally founded in 1986 for the purpose of bringing the excitement of theatre to children. This mission was first fulfilled when Timothy Busfield created Fantasy Theatre, a touring group that now reaches 200,000 students in Northern California annually.
The organization produces five core programs as follows:
B Street Theatre: Fresh, contemporary, intimate new plays for general audiences. The B Street Theatre has been recognized as one of northern California’s top professional theatres, producing more than 90 new plays, 60 of which are world, American, West Coast, or regional premieres.
Children’s Theatre of California: The region’s first fully professional theatre for young audiences. Launched in 2002, CTC features new and classic stories adapted for the stage.
The Fantasy Theatre: The original program of Theatre for Children, this arts outreach program tours to schools throughout Northern California reaching approximately 180,000 children annually. This program also inspires the next generation of playwrites through the annual Young Playwrites Festival with the winning entries being produced as a Fantasy Theatre touring production.
B Street Conservatory: Providing classes in technique and scene study to actors discovering, or rediscovering, their unique talent. Instructors are B Street regulars who hold MFA’s from American Conservatory Theatre of San Francisco or other top training programs in the U.S. and have regional and national acting credits.
Intern Company: The B Street Theatre Acting Internship is an intensive 10-month program that immerses young actors in every aspect of professional theatre. These young people are recent college graduates seeking their first post-college, professional theatre experience. Interns qualify for membership in Actors Equity Association upon completion of the program.
