Børkop municipality

Børkop municipality is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Vejle County on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in southeast Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 103 km², and has a total population of 11,478 (2005). Its mayor is Leif Skov, a member of the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterne) political party.
The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Børkop, which is located approx. halfway (c. 12 km) between the cities of Vejle and Fredericia. Other towns in the municipality include Brejning, Gårslev, Høl, Hvidbjerg, and Mørkholt.
Neighboring municipalities with land connection are Vejle to the northwest, Egtved and Kolding to the west, and Fredericia to the southeast. To the east and northeast is Vejle Fjord, which separates the municipality from municipal neighbors Juelsminde and Hedensted to the northeast.
The municipality was created in 1970 due to a kommunalreform ("Municipality Reform") that combined a number of existing parishes:
- Gauerslund Parish
- Gårslev Parish
- Skærup Parish
- Smidstrup Parish
By January 1, 2007 Børkop municipality will cease to exist, , as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with Egtved, Give, Jelling, and Vejle municipalities to form a new Vejle municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 1,055 km² and a total population of 82,935 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Syddanmark ("South Denmark Region").
