[edit] Biography

At first mistaken for Tri-edge, Azure Kite is a mysterious and extemely powerful character who appears in both the .hack//Roots anime series and the .hack//G.U. games. In .hack//G.U. Vol 2 it's revealed that he's not Tri-edge, and that Ovan is really Tri-edge. The entire time Haseo has been chasing him was a case of mistaken identity as Ovan (who was at the time out of control due to AIDA) was the one who killed Shino. Azure Kite just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Azure Kite is a Twin Blade-type character who resembles a corrupted version of Kite, the original protagonist from the first four .hack games, who played in the original The World. He carries two, triple-edged twin blades, and every time he appears he comes in the form of light and is surrounded by azure flames. His Blades are known as the Twin Fangs of the Abyss. They cannot be gained unless a cheating device (such as gameshark) is used. The english version of the game's weapon is called Empty Skies. He first appears in episode 9 of .hack//Roots, just before Ovan and the Twilight Brigade open the supposed path to the Key of the Twilight.

In the game, when Azure Kite heals himself after being defeated, he uses a Drain Heart to not only recover itself, but to also give him power to transform into an Avatar known as "Azure Flame God": an Avatar which seems to be a Mechanoid version of Kite broken apart. The only thing connecting them together are the Azure Flames. He opposes all forms of AIDA, which may have been one reason why he wished to Data Drain Haseo, who gained his second and third jobs from a surge of energy shot at him by the AI Harald.

In the trailer for volume 2 Azure Kite appears with corrupted versions of Balmung and Orca attacking Ovan. These three are known as "The Three Azure Knights". This is a throwback to Kite, Balmung and Orca all having Azure in their titles (Kite of the Azure Flames, Balmung of the Azure Sky, and Orca of the Azure Sea)

In the last book of .hack//legend of the twilight, as a mini comic, Azure Kite is mentioned by Balmung as the "Azure Flame." right after Balmung is defeated by him. After Balmung says, "This man...That Kite! Not Him...!!" Azure Kite Data Drains Balmung.
