There should be some distinction about Barty Crouch breaking out, as here it is implied he did it on his own. He didn't.

[edit] Location

I've removed the reference to Heligoland, as Azkaban is supposed to be north of the North Sea. Heligoland (German, Helgoland) is only about 70km away from Germany, in the south of the North Sea. The only islands more-or-less north of the North Sea are the Shetlands and the Orkneys. As the Shetlands are farther from any mainland, they seem a likelier location. I've added North Rona to the list of possible locations, it being 1) very remote, 2) just 1 island (unlike shetland) 3)uninhabited 4)off the North of Scotland, in latitude it meets the North Sea requirement though admittedly its "further round the top" of scotland. Also note 5)it was offered to the UK government in 1844 specifically for use as a penal colony (declined). Plus 6) it doesn't appear on most maps [because its so small!].

You can view its location at http://www.jncc.gov.uk/ProtectedSites/SACselection/sac.asp?EUcode=UK0012696 (red dot North of Outer Hebrides)

or in detail at http://getamap.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/getamap/frames.htm?mapAction=gaz&gazName=g&gazString=HW8125132450 and zoom out until you just see sea, then some more, and you see how remote it is.

Also note the logical embarkation point / nearest road would be the excellently named Cape Wrath.

[edit] Inspiration

Removed change by 130.236.60.33. "There has also been said that there exists a demonic power by the name of Azkaban." is completely unfounded---said by whom? In what context? What demonic power? I'm assuming good faith, but this addition seems irrelevant. Ryan McDaniel 16:23, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dementors

I'm not aware of any point in Order of the Phoenix where it is stated that the dementors have abandoned their duties, other than speculation by Harry. Fudge states in Half-Blood Prince that the dementors have left Azkaban, but no time frame is given, and it would seem more likely that they did so after Voldemort was revealed. Voldemort presumably would not have wanted the dementors to act disloyal to the Ministry while Fudge was still determined to believe that Dumbledore was lying.

Ah, okay, at the end of the book Fudge announces that the dementors have revolted, but that would contradict the statement in this article, which asserts that the revolt of the dementors allowed the escape of the Death Eaters.
Both those comments were from me. D'oh. -JohnRDaily 20:51, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
