Azhag the Slaughterer
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Azhag the Slaughterer is a fictional character from Games Workshop's Warhammer Fantasy setting.
Azhhag was one of the most dangerous Orc Warlords of recent history, and his campaigns of destruction through out the Empire almost brought the eastern provinces to their knees. After defeating countless Orc and Goblin tribes from the Worlds Edge Mountains, he led his horde into Ostermark and looted several towns, destroying the temple of Sigmar at Nachdorf in the process. He was first proclaimed the "Slaughterer" at the Battle for Butcher's Hill.
Azhag possessed a strange iron crown which he took from the lair of a chaos troll after slaying the creature. It is hinted that the crown is an artifact of Nagash. The crown granted him sorcerous powers as well as a serious boost to his tactical prowess, as demonstrated at the Battle of Butcher's Hill. After his final defeat by a large Empire army, this crown was taken by the Grand Theogeonist of Sigmar and locked away forever.
Azhag rode to battle on the back of a large Wyvern, often harrying his retreating enemies from the air after the battle.
The Battle for Butcher's Hill
This was the battle that earned Azhag his name, the "Slaughterer" and demonstrated his tactical prowess, granted by the Sorcerous Helm of Command. His forces were split into three sections, which is unusual for an Orc Army, as they are normally a rabble. His plan was to hit the Empire lines with the strongest of his assets, his Black Orcs and Big 'Uns, whilst on one of his flanks, he placed his fast-moving Goblins and Orc Boys, to flank the Empire Troops. The third section was mainly Snotlings and Goblins, to hem the Empire in through sheer weight of numbers.
At the height of the battle, Azhag flew over the Empire lines, and in a voice not quite his own (Characteristic of when he was giving his army its orders) he forced the recently deceased Empire Troops to rise up and attack their former comrades. The Battle was a massacre for the Empire, and Azhag had earned his place in history.
