Avondale High School is located in Auburn Hills, Michigan, which is located in the greater Metro Detroit area. Avondale High School, or AHS as it is commonly known, is the only high school serving the Avondale School District. Students in the Avondale School District live in Troy, Rochester Hills, Auburn Hills, and Bloomfield Hills. There are approximately 1,100 students presently enrolled at AHS, which serves grades 9-12. These students have the option of taking either regular or honors classes.

Fred Cromie is the current building principal. He replaced beloved principal James Steeby who retired at the end of the 2001-2002 school year. Mr. Cromie is well known for his curious gait, but is particularly known for his unusual ban on the wearing of pajama pants to class.

During the 2001-2002 school year, the Varsity Boys Basketball team won the State Championship for boys Division B Basketball.
