Avery Holton

Avery Holton is, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram among other publications, a Houston-born author/reporter who has worked for and been featured in newspapers, magazines and books since 1998. He joined the Triple-A Minor League affiliate of the Houston Astros as the Media Relations Coordinator in May of 2006 and was promoted to Director of Communications in June of 2006. He continues to hold the post.
Holton worked as a sports reporter for various Texas newspapers between 1998-2005, occasionally appearing in Time[1] during that period, according to the publication's archives. He currently serves as a freelance editor to several magazine publications along with his position in professional sports.
Holton, born in Houston in 1980, served as a professor's assistant in 2003-2004 at the University of Texas at Austin for Sports Journalism and Basic Journalism courses. Selected as a four-year Terry Scholar, he was active in student government and was a Scripps-Howard Fellow in 2002. He was also a Hearst Fellowship finalist in 2004.
A graduate of the University of Texas' Master's of Arts program in Journalism in 2004, he devoted his graduate studies to new media forms and online journalism.
He has also served as an online editor and producer for various Texas newspapers while continuing to contribute to publications such as Time and The Sporting News.
