The Avalon-class light cruisers are a type of starship used in the Honorverse by the Royal Manticoran Navy. The Avalon is the newest class of light cruiser used by the Royal Manticoran Navy, and is equipped with with the new Mark-16c missile launchers (who's off-bore capacity elleviate the need for for- and aft missile launchers) and the new bow- and stern wall shields. They were introduced along with the Edward Saganami-C class heavy cruiser and Roland-class Destroyer and make extensive use of automation, reducing crew size (and marine complement) dramatically.
HMS Aegis, which appeared in The Shadow of Saganami was a ship of this type, and seemed to be the most modern type of light cruiser in commission. Its captain was Commander Herawati Lignos.
