This flag can have multiple meanings in auto racing. In Formula One, the white flag is displayed only from a marshal post, and indicates a slower vehicle on the section of track ahead (ChampCar also uses the white flag for this purpose). In IndyCar, ChampCar and NASCAR, the flag is waved from the start tower to indicate that the race leader has started the final lap of the competition.
