Autonomous Municipal States in Puerto Rico

In 1991, the law of Autonomous Municipalities of the Free Associated State of Puerto Rico was created as a strategy for the decentralization and the improvement of services to the people. In recent years, groups of mayors have demanded a revision of the law. The questioning that has risen around the reach and effects of the law have raised serious doubts about its contribution to the decentralization and about the support that it enjoys from municipal executives. This piece will investigate the support that the autonimus municipality has between the different mayors as well as look at its perception around the current decentralization.
