[edit] Summary

Description

The map depicts the major expeditions in Australia between 1881 and 1900 AD as well as the major settlements founded during that period. All expeditions on the map were led by men of British or British-Australian descent and are therefore coloured in shades of red. Even in 1901 there were some areas left, which were still unexplored by europeans; however, they were rather small and are not marked on the map. Their borders and the tracks are only approximate. The names given are those of the leaders of the expeditions. The cross-barred black line in the middle of Australia between Adelaide and Darwin represents the Overland Telegraph line which was built between 1870 and 1872 AD.
