[edit] Summary
Description |
The map depicts the major expeditions to Australia between 1788 and 1790 AD, that is, in the decade of the foundation of the first permanent European settlement on the island continent - the British (penal) colony at Port Jackson (nowadays "Sydney") in 1788AD. British expeditions are coloured red and French ones blue. The areas probably unknown to the Europeans in 1790 AD are shaded. Their borders and the tracks are only approximate. The names given are those of the leaders of the expeditions.
