Austropop
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Austropop is a musical movement, which started in Austria in the middle of the 1970s and lasted until the 90s. Apart from the artists all hailing from Austria, it is characterized by lyrics sung and written in Austrian German Austrian dialect, hence making them fully intelligible in Austria and Southern Germany only. Despite these lingual limitations, many of the singers and groups are known throughout the entire German-speaking world.
Artists of the Austropop movement include:
- Falco
- Rainhard Fendrich
- Hubert von Goisern
- S.T.S.
- Wolfgang Ambros
- Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung, but better known as EAV.
However, Austropop is not much of a specific style, it is more a trademark of origin, because musicians of various styles are mentioned as Austropop artists.
