Since 2000, when a group of people begun to play in Valls, Aussie Rules has developed in Catalonia with some teams: Belfry Valls AFC, Barcelona Stars, Gabas Tarragona, Lleida Coiots, and Wendells Salou (actually joined with Tarragona). The LFAC was officially created in 2005, going the first title to Belfry Valls beating Wendells Salou.

A French team from Northern Catalonia, the Saint Esteve Saints, is considering joining the Lliga de Futbol Australià de Catalunya for their 2007 season.
