[edit] AMSA Convention

The premier event of AMSA is the AMSA Convention. In 2006, the 2006 AMSA Convention, held in Perth, was the biggest ever attracting 800 medical students, which is nearly 1 in 12 medical students. The 2007 AMSA Convention will travel to Adelaide as the event moves around the country on its seven year rotation. It is noted that in 2007, medical students from the University of Adelaide will compete to retain the Cascade Cup (the supreme competitive event between Australian medical schools) for no less than the fifth consecutive year.

The outstanding academic program featured at the 2006 AMSA Convention included plenary sessions conducted by Nobel Prize Laureates Professor Barry Marshall and Professor Peter Doherty. The 2006 Australian of the Year, Professor Ian Frazer, also presented. Exciting topics such as hypnosis, NASA's role in eye medicine and stem cell research & cloning were explored.

Registration: 'Rego' opened for the 2006 Convention on Sunday 26th of March, the 412 accommodation beds sold out in three days and the 640 full registration positions sold out in five days. Over the following week 300 email addresses were added to the waiting list. Later another 150 positions were released to the first 150 on the waiting list.
