[edit] Wrong Date

The Catholic Encyclopedia puts the timeframe at the 9th century, About 847 he appeared in France at the court of Charles the Bald. Not the date of 655A.D. http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/05519a.htm Celtic Harper 17:00, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Slight confusion, that's John Scotus Erigena that they are referring to, and we do indeed have him living in the 9th century. Probably it should be mentioned that this Eriugena is rather better known as Augustinus Hibernicus. There's a paper from Chronicon which deals with him here.
