Augustine Bearce (Be Arce) was born about 1618, probably in London. He was a full blood Roma, or Gypsy. He was deported in 1638 by the British Government on the ship Confidence of London and taken to Massachusetts. He settled at Barnstable on Cape Cod. Augustine married Mary (Little Dove) Hyanno, a full blood Wampanoag princess, and granddaughter of Hyannough, Sachem of all the Cape tribes. They became members of the Barnstable church, and were careful to have all their children baptized and carefully recorded, and became a prominent family in Barnstable, and the ancestors of many Americans. He died about 1697, probably at Barnstable, Massachusetts.
