August and Everything After (1993) |
Recovering the Satellites (1996) |
August and Everything After is the debut album of Counting Crows, released in 1993 (see 1993 in music).
The album cover features lyrics to a song called "August and Everything After", but the band decided against featuring the song on the album of the same name, and it wasn't until over a decade later that it was played as part of one of their live concerts.

[edit] References
The album contains several references to the 1959 Saul Bellow novel Henderson the Rain King, most explicitly in "Rain King," where Duritz sings, "Henderson is waiting for the sun." Song and novel both deal with isolation and a perceived lack of spiritual fulfillment, familiar themes in Bellow's work as well as the Counting Crows catalogue.
