[edit] Some Sites

Hi. There are some alternatives that would help if you need to convert some text file to audio. I know the site ServiciosPDF --- PDF - Text - Audio that help you to do it.

[edit] German version

The german version of this substub is a full article! Can someone translate the german into the english Wiki? Eric Herboso 02:12, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Hi Eric! This is Marietta from Germany - I think it's a lot of German-specific stuff in it - so i'm afraid that many information may not help much for an Englisch audiobook-article. And my English is not as good to translate. But I am also very interested to learn more about Audiobook-history in USA or GB or wherever you are. [edit] History

I was surprised to see no mention of spoken-word vinyl, which occasionally presented true audiobooks and certainly major progenitors (Shakespeare performances, etc.). Some history in general--the old, bland-looking reads found in libraries of the '70s before books on tape hit big commercially in the 80s. I don't have the knowledge to write on the subject myself however, just anecdotal wanderings of a kid in those days. --24.33.28.52 02:46, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed move to "Audiobook"

As of September 2006, "audiobook" returns 15 million Google hits, whereas "audio book" returns only 6 million. I therefore propose that this page be moved to Audiobook. --Amit 20:20, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Audiobooks.net

Audiobooks.net is a legitimate Audiobook website offering a library of free audio books from several different online sources and independent authors. For example Audiobooks.net offers books from Simply Audiobooks, Literalsystems, several independent authors and more in one central location.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.141.239.140 (talkcontribs) .

Please explain why you think the audiobooks.net page link was in violation of this policy? Is it simply that no article exists for audiobooks.net? freeb26

#5 - "links intended to promote a site, especially if that site's primary purpose is to advertise or sell products or services, or if the site requires payment to view the relevant content", and passim. I think point #3 may also be relevant since your only edits to Wikipedia have been to promote links to this site. An article establishing notability would go some way to warranting an internal link. -- zzuuzz (talk) 18:14, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Is this not open to some interpretation? Almost all of the sites still listed are selling services and products so I would think that except for librivox all other links could be removed based on #5. Audiobooks.net is central location for free audio books and it really is completely free. Its primary purpose is to create a central source for free audio books and to promote independent authors. Audiobooks.net does promote both audible, simplyaudiobooks and librivox, all of which are currently listed in wikipedia but this is a secondary purpose only (by promoting these companies audioboooks.net is given permission to provide certain titles for free).

On another note I am not sure what the "Reading at Risk Report" link is doing in the external links because I cannot see the relevance to audio books or find any audio books on this site? freeb26
