Talk:Au Bonheur des Dames
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
- I'm wondering if we could post favourite scenes in the book as one would do with a movie. For example, my favourite scene, which brings to mind the underlying class structure, is when Denise is at Henriette's house with her coat that needs to be custom-fitted. Mouret is there and instead of outright sticking up for her he remains silent and simply tells Denise to go after Henriette has verbally and emotionally abused her in the other room.
Mouret, although he loves Denise, will not go past a certain class boundary and reprimand Henriette on the spot. Instead he simply separated the classes again as if they shouldn't be intertwined.
I don't want to ruin the book for anyone, which may be a concern but I think more people would read this literature if it was conveyed in terms as I've suggested above.
