Atlantic City International Airport (IATA: ACY, ICAO: KACY) is a public airport located nine miles (14 km) northwest of the central business district (CBD) of Atlantic City, in Atlantic County, New Jersey. Situated in Egg Harbor Township near the Atlantic City Expressway, the airport is accessible via Exit 9 on the Expressway. The facility is owned and operated by the South Jersey Transportation Authority and serves as a base for the New Jersey Air National Guard and the United States Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City. The airport is adjacent to the William J. Hughes Technical Center, a major research and testing hub for the Federal Aviation Administration, and a training center for the Federal Air Marshal Service.
The airport is currently served by two commercial airlines, Spirit Airlines and Delta Connection carrier, Comair, neither of which currently serve any international destinations nonstop, but both offer extensive coverage nationally and internationally with as little as one stop.
Due to the airport's current growth, more airlines could begin service quite soon, especially from low-fare carriers like AirTran Airways, Allegiant Air, or Southwest Airlines. The South Jersey Transportation Authority has outlined plans for massive terminal expansions (on top of current initiatives) which might be necessary if more air carriers wish to serve the airport. Total passenger traffic at the airport in 2004 was 1,050,172, the second consecutive year that volume topped one million.

[edit] History
In the past, ACY has also been served by US Airways Express and Continental Express on turboprops and regional jets, most notably being service to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport by Continental Express carrier ExpressJet Airlines on Embraer ERJ regional Jets. Delta Air Lines also offered service to Boston on Delta Connection regional jets operated by Atlantic Coast Airlines (later, the now-defunct Independence Air), until a few years ago.
The airport is currently undergoing a $40 million terminal and taxiway expansion project which will more than double the size of current facilities.
Spirit Airlines resumed its daily flight between ACY and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport in Detroit as of May 18, 2006.
