The ones who survived passed on their children "the gift", the ability to sense the Wraith. One of such people was Teyla's ancestor, but she has promised her father a long time ago that she would not explain this to her. Now, however, may be their chance to defeat the Wraith.[4] Charin died of heart failure following siege of Atlantis, she requested that Teyla perform the Ring Ceremony to celebrate her passing. Her final words to Teyla were "The Journey Begins".[5]
