Athol is a city in Kootenai County, Idaho, United States. The population was 676 at the 2000 census. It is notable for the nearby Silverwood theme park.

Athol is located at 47°56′46″N, 116°42′26″W (47.946024, -116.707349)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.0 km² (0.8 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 676 people, 255 households, and 186 families residing in the city. The population density was 330.4/km² (857.9/mi²). There were 287 housing units at an average density of 140.3/km² (364.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 95.41% White, 2.37% Native American, 0.15% from other races, and 2.07% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.07% of the population.

There were 255 households out of which 36.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.9% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.7% were non-families. 20.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 2.98.

In the city the population was spread out with 29.6% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 31.5% from 25 to 44, 20.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 106.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 103.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $30,595, and the median income for a family was $31,875. Males had a median income of $28,438 versus $17,813 for females. The per capita income for the city was $13,632. About 11.0% of families and 14.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.3% of those under age 18 and 23.7% of those age 65 or over.
