[edit] Ethnicity

I've removed the sentence "The population of the area is largely black and South Asian" from the article on the following basis. As per figures from the 2001 census documented on the City Council website here, the largest single ethnic group in Aston ward (which has a total population of 27,923) was Asian or Asian British (i.e. South Asian) with 13,523, then came White with 6,574, then Black or Black British with 5,666. There were also 981 people of mixed race, 133 Chinese and 466 of "Other" ethnicity. In other words, no ethnic group has an absolute majority of the population, and combining the largest ethnic group and the third largest to create a majority is questionable. One might reasonably write that the majority of Aston's citizens are from ethnic minority groups and this will be a fair piece of information when I get round to writing a more extended article. As one of the few pieces of info in the current article, however, (and when juxtaposed with the unsourced comments about crime) this might be read as POV, though of course I am sure this is unintentional. [edit] Aston Manor

The Aston Manor link on this page just redirects back here. perhaps someone would like to start an article?Lozleader 19:02, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, probably worth doing. I wonder what the term 'Aston' now actually means in local usage these days : the ancient parish included basically all of Birmingham's inner eastern suburbs : which retained the actual name 'Aston'. Morwen - Talk 21:25, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
