Astronomy (song)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Astronomy" is a rock song by Blue Öyster Cult on their 1974 album Secret Treaties.
[edit] Lyrics
The song details a Hell-like location called the "Four Winds bar" that lets you in but won't let you out. The bar's name suggests that it goes everywhere (the four directions, or in this case, winds). Another line describes the bar as having "two doors locked and windows barred", meaning entry or escape is impossible by those means; however, the bar is also said to feature "one door... to take you in", meaning that there is a point of entry; "the other [door] just mirrors it" is the last line suggesting that the last door is the same as the previous one. As the first two doors are locked and the last two only allow you to enter, the bar can therefore be seen as a prison (ironically, there are four doors, implying that there is one door for every wind; the winds can be seen as forces that carry unknowing souls into the bar). There is also mention of a "light that never warms" (the moon), which implies the bar never changes from a night-time state.
