Asptro is a bridge convention used for intervention over an opponent's 1NT opening.

  • 2♣ shows at least 5-4 either way round in and another suit.
  • 2 shows at least 5-4 either way round in ♠ and another suit.
  • 2/♠ are natural.
  • With both hearts and spades the player anchors onto the shorter/weaker suit.

Partner can then bid the shown major at the 2-level as a sign off, bid 2 as a non-forcing enquiry or bid 2NT as a strong enquiry.

Over a 2 response the Asptro bidder bids his 5 card suit or passes if his 5 card suit is diamonds. Over a 2NT response the Asptro bidder normally bids the suit he has not shown. As a bid of 3/♠ implies the other major as well additional meanings can be assigned to those bids.
