From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Askrova is an Island of Flora in the county of Sogn og Fjordane, Norway. The island was settled by a man called Willy Ask.

[edit] History

Askrova is the only place in the county that is more inhabitanted by sheep then by horses. The island used to constitute a municipality of its own, but in 1981 a bridge was built from Askrova over to the smaller island, Tansøy.

After the bridge joined the two islands, Tansøy made an impact on the local society of Askrova by creating a yearly soccer tournament called "øya cup" starting in 1982.

[edit] Noted person

Stian Tansø from Askrova and Tansøy is the most capped(31) player in the Øya Cup history and he is also the player with most goals, having scored 77. After several years playing for Tansøy, he transferred to Askrova in 1997 when Øya Cup had its 15 year anniversary.

When Tansø Stian left Tansøy all the innhabitants of Tansøy went into grief. They later started smilling again when Askrova and Tansø joined forces in 2001 as they were determend to win back the title from Kinn. Stian was the hero of the final that year when he scored 2 goals in the final against Æsøy.
