Asia Bank N.A. (亞細亞銀行) or Asia Bank, National Association, is a overseas Chinese bank in the United States. This privately-held community bank is headquartered in Flushing, Queens, with branch offices in Chinatown, Manhattan, Elmhurst, Queens, and Rockville, Maryland. The bank was established by a group of Taiwanese merchants on November 9, 1984, and it is mainly controlled by the Choi family.
The history of the development of this bank is different than most overseas Chinese bank in New York City. As the number of the Chinese immigrants increased, Flushing, Queens became the largest ethnic Chinese community in the New York metropolitan area, surpassing even Chinatown, Manhattan. Instead of like most overseas Chinese bank in New York City which first focused on serving clients in Chinatown, Manhattan, Asia Bank mainly focused on serving the new arrivals in Flushing, Queens. However, he local community of Chinatown, Manhattan was not ignored either as it also constitute a significant portion of the bank’s business.
