[edit] Welcome to Wikipedia!

Dear Asher Heimermann: Welcome to Wikipedia, a free and open-content encyclopedia. I hope you enjoy contributing. To help get you settled in, I thought you might find the following pages useful:

Don't worry too much about being perfect. Very few of us are! Just in case you are not perfect, click here to see how you can avoid making common mistakes.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.

Wikipedians try to follow a strict policy of never biting new users. If you are unsure of how to do something, you are welcome to ask a more experienced user such as an administrator. One last bit of advice: please sign any discussion comment with four tildes (~~~~). The software will automatically convert this into your signature which can be altered in the "Preferences" tab at the top of the screen. I hope I have not overwhelmed you with information. If you need any help just let me know. Once again welcome to Wikipedia, and don't forget to tell us about yourself and be BOLD! --

[edit] Your Asher Heimermann article

Hi, Asher. You should take a look at these Wikipedia guidelines to understand why your article was marked for deletion:

  • WP:AUTO - Guidelines for writing articles about yourself (as a general policy, you shouldn't)
  • WP:BIO - Notability guidelines for articles about people in general
  • WP:V - Anything you write about in Wikipedia needs to be verifiable.
  • WP:CITE - Guidelines for sources that can be used to verify your article.

Let me know if you have any questions! -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 07:15, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your use of templates on this page

May I suggest that you remove the {{WP:Biography}} and {{controversial}} templates from this talk page? Those belong on article talk pages, not user talk pages. You have placed your user talk page in article categories as a result. Thank you. Gzkn 07:35, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Never mind. I removed them for you. Gzkn 08:35, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Warning

If you start tampering with templates you lose any sympathy I have for you.

Thank you for experimenting with the page Asher Heimermann on Wikipedia. Your test worked, and it has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you may want to do. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. --ArmadilloFromHell 07:51, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Recreating a deleted article by using a different article name and a different user account is vandalism and trying to game the systen. see (User talk:NumLee

Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing. However, unconstructive edits are considered vandalism. If you continue in this manner you may be blocked from editing without further warning. Please stop, and consider improving rather than damaging the work of others. Thank you. --ArmadilloFromHell 23:17, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Despite previous warnings - you have continued to post your resume --ArmadilloFromHell 02:33, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Your repeated efforts to vandalize articles makes it seem that you are unaware that Wikipedia is a serious project. You have been reported to the administration group for continuing vandalism and an administrator will review your contributions shortly. You may not receive another warning before being blocked, so be careful and be serious from now on. If you are blocked, please reconsider your behavior once the block expires.
What did I do this time? Asher Heimermann 02:34, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
I am sorry, I did not see your post before. I will not repost my 'resume'. Asher Heimermann 02:36, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] What are you doing?

Asher, why are you sending out so many Welcome to Wikipedia messages? -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 04:47, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

I am just welcoming the new members. Just like you did for me. It that bad? Asher Heimermann 04:48, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

It's a little unusual to be doing it based on the user creation log, which is what you appear to be doing. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 04:53, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Well, I want to be a recent changes patroller. It that ok? Please let me know. Like I said, I dont want to be blocked. I just want to be helpfull. Asher Heimermann 04:55, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Ok, read these pages:

Help:Recent changes
Wikipedia:Vandalism

-- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 04:59, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy Deletions

Patrolling the new pages is a great way to combat vandals, and I do it from time to time. However, before you go about adding speedy deletion tags, please read through WP:SPEEDY. Tagging articles for speedy deletion because you don't understand what it's about is not the right way to go about doing things. Gzkn 05:57, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Is it ok for me to send out welcome messages? I find it much EZ for me to do. Asher Heimermann 06:00, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Why don't you spend some time learning about Wikipedia yourself, Asher? If you send out greetings, some of those people are going to ask you questions about how Wikipedia works, and right now, you aren't really ready to answer those questions. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 06:17, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Using templates

Just a friendly note, if you're going to be warning vandals, try to use templates (see Template:TestTemplates) instead of copying and pasting. That way, you'll avoid silly mistakes like signing as someone else. Gzkn 06:20, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Please don't welcome blatant vandals with friendly greetings. Also, please sign your posts by typing or pasting ~~~~ instead of pre-existing signatures. This will ensure that your timestamps are correct. Thank you! —David Levy 06:41, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

I am sorry. I am new here at Wikipedia. I am only giving him/her information. Thats all. Asher Heimermann 06:43, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
I know. I'm only giving you information. That's all.  :-) —David Levy 06:49, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] What?

How did I vandalize? All I did was delete the message "hi" that someone had added to a stub. I was correcting vandalism, not causing it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.151.238.66 (talkcontribs).

Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Please make sure you sign your posts like (Asher Heimermann 19:53, 24 November 2006 (UTC)) so we know who you are. Thanks, Asher Heimermann 19:53, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
Yes, would you please explain why you gave this user a blatant vandal warning? Metros232 19:50, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
I came to the Recent Chnages page and I found that a page was redone by a Bot. It made me feel as is if he had done something wrong. I gived him a welcome message and 1st warning. Asher Heimermann 19:53, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
No, you most definitely didn't. [1] no where in that history is a vandalbot revert. No where in this history [2] did you welcome the user. Metros232 19:55, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

re: "You did nothing wrong on Wikipedia so far."

Asher, please stop greeting users and sending out vandal warnings until you understand Wikipedia better. What you're doing now is disruptive. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 19:58, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] No Problem

Someone already deleted the tag. Don't worry about it. ( Paul Gilmer 19:57, 24 November 2006 (UTC))

[edit] Moving On...

I will be moving on to Wikibooks until 3:00pm (CST) today (11-24-06). I'll be back later in the night. Take care, Asher Heimermann 19:57, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your greeting to User talk:Paul Gilmer

Asher, please stop sending out those greetings! This user doesn't even exist. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 20:07, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I just deleted that user talk page. Please find something more productive on Wikipedia to keep you occupied until you get the hang of Wikipedia. Right now you're just being somewhat disruptive. Metros232 20:09, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
Well, I am moving on to Wikibooks. Maybe someone on Wikibooks would be willing to help me [1].

[edit] Committees

[edit] Your user page

I took a quick look at it last night; it's fine. I didn't get back to you because I didn't really have any changes to suggest, and I was on my way to bed. Asher, if you want to help the encyclopedia, what subjects are you interested in and know something about? Why don't you start reading the articles that interest you? Maybe take a look at Sheboygan, Wisconsin and Wisconsin and see if there's anything you can do to improve them? How good are you as a researcher? I see a [citation needed] tag in the Wisconsin article; tracking down a citation for that comment would be awesome. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 16:36, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Well, I like Government, Politics, U.S. History, and Sheboygan, Wisconsin. I'll try to start an article about Mayor Juan Perez. The Mayor of the City of Sheboygan. Senator Heimermann 17:31, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
I would suggest not doing that. Mayors of smaller towns usually get deleted. Usually the person needs to be the mayor of a major city in the state to get an article or they have to have done something particularly significant. For example, in Wisconsin I wouldn't be surprised if the mayor of Madison or Milwaukee had an article. Metros232 17:45, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
(Mayor Juan Perez) I am sorry. I did not see your message before I started. Take a look. I am adding more information. Senator Heimermann 17:51, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your request on the Requests for Administration page

Dear Senator: I saw your request on the Requests for Administration page so I thought I would reply here. Welcome again to Wikipedia, and I am glad you are interested so quickly in helping block vandals and help keep things in good order. You should be aware, however, that to pass a Request for Administration, a candidate generally needs a few months editing here and a few thousand edits, so that people can judge his or her dedication and good judgment.

There are a lot of things you can do to help in the meantime. For example, in addition to writing or editing articles, you can watch out for vandalism on recent changes or watchlist articles you are interested in, revert any vandalism you see and warn the vandals, and report persistent vandals to WP:AIV for blocking. It's definitely not true that only administrators can help, and I think you will understand why they don't give powers like blocking to people who haven't proved themselves.

One other thing to think about near the start of your Wikipedia career is whether you want to edit here under your real name (assuming this is your real name). Some people use their real names and some people use pseudonyms, but if you do intend to fight vandals and get involved in deletion discussions and maybe become an administrator someday, you should be aware that there have been isolated incidents of harassment. For that reason, a lot of high-profile Wikipedians, especially younger ones, have decided not to use their real name as their username.

I hope this is helpful, and if you are wondering about anything else, post a question on the Help desk or right here and someone will respond. Regards, Newyorkbrad 02:56, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] What are you doing? (version 2)

First, you create an article for Mayor Juan Perez. Then you add a speedy deletion notice to it using an IP. I change it from db (which gives no reason for the deletion) to db-bio, and now you're asking me why I want to delete it? Gzkn 04:10, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Mayor Juan Perez should be noteable. Read on the article talkpage for more. Senator Heimermann 04:11, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Read above. You added the speedy deletion template. I merely changed it from db to db-bio. Gzkn 04:13, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
FINE! You (Gzkn) did nothing wrong. Senator Heimermann 04:16, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Asher, are you sure that Juan Perez (mayor) is sufficiently notable to justify a Wikipedia article? It looks like the population of Sheboygan, Wisconsin is in the 50,000 range. As far as I can tell, the only Wisconsin cities whose mayors have bios here are Madison, Wisconsin (state capital, population 220,000+) and Milwaukee, Wisconsin (population 580,000). I strongly recommend that you add {{db-author}} to the top of that article. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 05:00, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Staying With Welcoming Committee

I will only be volunteering for Wikipedia's Welcoming Committee. I find it better, then starting articles. Hopefuly, this will clear some issues up. Senator Heimermann 04:26, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Pleeeeease be more vigilant when you do your welcoming. For one, you welcomed: users who don't exist, users who have been here for months on end, you've welcomed peopled through your IP address then had to correct your signature, and you've signed a bunch as "from the Wikipedia Coming Committee". (My friend, Metros232, needs to sign his messages with ~~~~.)
I highly agree with the above sentiments. Gzkn 04:30, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
No comment from Senator Heimermann 04:32, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Another thought: if you're going to be a member of the Welcoming Committee, please read through their directions at WP:Wc. In particular For quick welcomes, you can use {{welcome}}, or your own version of that template. If you do, use {{subst:welcome}}, not just {{welcome}}. Gzkn 04:43, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

So, I can just use{{welcome}} and sign my name? Senator Heimermann 04:47, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
No. Use {{subst:welcome}} and sign your name. Gzkn 04:49, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Ok. I understand. Senator Heimermann 04:52, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Talk:Juan Perez (mayor)

Please do not remove content from Wikipedia, as you did to Talk:Juan Perez (mayor). It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. --ArmadilloFromHell 04:59, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Removing speedy tags

Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles that you have created yourself. If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please place {{hangon}} on the page and make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. --ArmadilloFromHell 05:19, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Disruptive In Many Ways

If this is so... I am sorry -- from my hart. Senator Heimermann 05:25, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

I can't lie to you, Asher...you've been disruptive. But understanding that is the first step towards improving. I know this might take some of the fun out of Wikipedia for you, but think of it as a library where everyone is working. Sometimes we compare notes with each other about projects we're working on, but mostly we try to sit quietly and write articles. Here's what you can do to help: First, just read about Wikipedia for a while, starting with WP:HELP and WP:5P. Read some articles about subjects that interest you. Hold off on the greetings for a while. If you greet people, they're going to expect you to be able to answer their questions about Wikipedia, and you're not ready to do that yet. Start small and fix spelling errors and factual errors in articles about subjects that you know something about. And don't create new articles until you understand the place a bit more. Ok? -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 05:37, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] John H. Cox

Welcome, and thank you for experimenting with the page John H. Cox on Wikipedia! Your test worked, and thank you for reverting or removing it yourself. The best way to do tests in the future would be to use the sandbox. You can look at these pages as well: how to edit a page, the tutorial, and how to write a great article. All of these pages are good places to start. Again, welcome, and I hope that you will like Wikipedia. --ArmadilloFromHell 05:52, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

I did remove it myself. Now, your just playing games with me. Senator Heimermann 05:55, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Asher, have you read anything I've said to you?

Please go back and carefully read what I said under "Disruptive in many ways". I'm asking you to just read about Wikipedia for a while, and stop greeting people until you understand Wikipedia better. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 06:28, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

What did I do this time? I read the overview of Wikipedia. I know about the Wikipedia War. Yes, I did read some stuff you told me. Asher Heimermann 06:30, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Asher, when I asked you to hold off on greeting people, I didn't mean for a few minutes. I meant stop completely until you understand Wikipedia better. You really shouldn't be greeting people until you know Wikipedia well enough to explain any questions they ask you, and you're definitely not there yet. Wikipedia's not about networking and socializing; it's about writing an encyclopedia. So for now, chill on the welcomes and spend some time reading. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 06:38, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank You!
